The Durham Lords handed the Algonquin Thunder their first OCAA regular season loss in seven seasons on Sept. 9, halting a 50-match undefeated streak. Bruce Cullen (Pickering) and Kevin Thibodeau (Pickering) both scored in the opening half, as Durham would not relinquish its 2-0 lead. In a display of solidarity, Durham wore T-shirts in memory of Algonquin's Alex Asmis, who tragically passed away last spring.
