2013-14 OCAA FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR - KELLY NYHOF

TORONTO - The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) proudly recognizes Humber College women's volleyball student-athlete Kelly Nyhof as its 2013-14 OCAA female athlete of the year.

She was also named an OCAA West Division first-team all-star.

Following her impressive regular season, Nyhof went on to lead Humber to a seventh consecutive OCAA championship. She was named MVP at the championship, accumulating 56 kills, eight service aces and six blocks for 70 points in three matches, all four-set victories.

"Having coached in the OCAA for several years, it's rare that you get to coach an athlete as special as Kelly," says Humber women's volleyball head coach Chris Wilkins. "Her willingness to learn and get better, her care for teammates makes Kelly the person she is today."

"She is a gifted athlete and an even better person. I can honestly say she has been a dream to coach and one of the finest people to have ever come through the Humber women's volleyball program."

Nationally, the Georgetown, Ont., native was named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's volleyball player of the year as well as an all-Canadian. Scholastically, she received SIRC-CCAA academic all-Canadian and OCAA all-academic awards based on her achievements in Humber's office administration - law firm profile program. She is also a member of Volleyball Canada's national program.

"Kelly is an exceptional athlete and student who's epitomizes the very best qualities of an OCAA student-athlete," praises Humber athletic director Ray Chateau. "We are proud of her accomplishments at Humber and look forward to following her progress on our national team."

Overall in her five seasons in the OCAA, Nyhof is a five-time provincial champion making appearances at five consecutive national championships; a three-time CCAA all-Canadian; a three-time OCAA championship MVP; five-time OCAA first-team all-star; two-time OCAA West Division scoring champion; one-time OCAA championship all-star; and a one-time OCAA West Division rookie of the year (2009-10). Nyhof is second all-time in several all-time OCAA statistical categories, including 1,186 points, 873 kills and 198 blocks.
