LANCERS BACK ON TRACK

LANCERS BACK ON TRACK

The Lancers came through with a strong showing in their first regular season outing of the year against the Fleming Knights Wednesday night in Belleville.

Veteran setter Savino Marquez got the Lancers off to a great start with a series of tough serves that caught the Knights on their heels and gave the Lancers an early lead. Second year left side Trevor Fortier followed suit and served the Lancers to a quick 6-1 lead. The Lancers continued to dominate the set with aggressive serves and huge attacks from every position in the front row.

The Lancers carried the momentum through the next set, earning their second win of the night with a 25-22 final. The Knights bounced back in the third, winning 25-20 to avoid the sweep and force extra sets. In an extremely close fourth set battle, the Lancers were able to garner extra momentum to expand their lead to 20-17 before closing out with an exciting 25-21 final.

Left sides Josh Roberts and Riley Litwiller's precise serve receive passing allowed Marquez to run a dynamic and unreadable offense. Roberts played a big all around game, contributing 12 kills, 2 aces and 2 blocks for 16 total points. Right side player Caleb Seguin added 15 points of his own while first year middle Andrew Hudgins recorded 8 kills, 1 ace and a block for 10 points. Marquez, who turned in yet another incredible performance, added 3 aces and a kill to the win.

The Lancers look to build on their success when they travel to Toronto to take on the George Brown Huskies, Saturday at 3 pm.
