With a 1-0 win over the Redeemer Royals, Mountaineers men's soccer has extended its win streak to two games.

It didn't take long for Mohawk to get on the scoreboard as Michael Gavrilos found the back of the net in the seventh minute.

Gavrilos credited the Royals for being a tough opponent.

"The goal I scored was one of the good chances we got, luckily I was there at the right time, and I put it in," he said. "Nothing was easy. Redeemer fought hard, but we fought harder, and we got the win."

The offense has been the storyline this season for Mohawk, but it was the defence that stepped up big in this match. The Mountaineers were able to defend their goal and counter effectively, mainly due to the great effort of goalkeeper Oliver Steinke.

Jordan Brown, head coach of Mohawk, said it was not the cleanest win for his squad but a "win is a win".

"It was not the cleanest win because we can play way better, I know we can," Brown said. "We are relatively comfortable with the result."

With a 2-1 record on the season, the Mountaineers will next face the Niagara Knights (1-2) in Niagara on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m.
