DC claims OCAA east title in home finale

OSHAWA, Ont. - With a home finale victory over the visiting Centennial Colts, the No. 5 nationally ranked Durham College men's volleyball team secured the OCAA east title at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Thursday night. Set scores for the match were 25-19, 25-16, 26-24.

The win improved the Lords record to 16-1 on the season, placing them two games ahead of second with only one match remaining. This separation allowed DC to claim the division championship for the first time since 2014-15, when the green and gold completed a perfect 18-0 regular season run.

Also important on the night, Durham honoured their graduating seniors. Those recognized included Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.), Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.), James Hirt (Scarborough, Ont.), Liam Gray (Barrie, Ont.), and Tristan Swinden (Whitby, Ont.). Durham will end the regular season this Saturday, Feb. 15 in Barrie, in what will be a battle of the top two teams in the OCAA east, as they challenge the 14-3 Georgian Grizzlies. First serve for the regular season finale is scheduled for 3 p.m., with the match available on OCAA LIVE.
  • Continuing to round into form at the end of the season, Andrew Dube (Uxbridge, Ont.) led the way for the Lords with a game-high 18 points from 16 kills and two blocks.
• Both Will Hart (Erinsville, Ont.) and the previously mentioned Swinden also had strong offensive nights with nine points apiece.
• Offence was spread out for the Colts as five of the six players who recorded points on the night tallied at least 6 points each, topped by eight points from Timothy Ho.
  • In the quick three set match, fifth-year setter Gray tallied 27 assists, adding two kills, four aces, five digs, and one block to round out his all-around performance.
