Four goal second half propels Lords to season opening win

OSHAWA, ON - Making their home and season debut at Vaso's Field on Tuesday night, the Durham College women's soccer team earned a decisive 5-0 win over the visiting Loyalist Lancers.

Throughout the entirety of the match the Lords dominated possession, maintaining play in the Lancers defensive end for a majority of the 90 minutes. This parlayed itself into DC producing 19 shots on goal. First-year midfielder Brianna Kelly (Whitby, ON) opened the scoring in the 23rd minute for Durham, after a rebound found its way to her foot and then into the mesh. DC held a 1-0 lead into the half.

Early in the second, striker Laura Smith (Queensville, ON) scored her first goal of the game in the 49th minute after substituting in just before the break. Smith would then add a second goal in the 82nd, as the Lords went on to score three goals over the final ten minutes. Notching the third goal was veteran Bailey Colangelo (Whitby, ON) who converted from the penalty spot in the 84th, followed by a beautiful effort off the left foot of Jessica Ferreira (Ajax, ON) in the 85th.

Despite conceding five goals, Loyalist keeper Emily Mealing put in a strong result with 14 total saves. Earning the clean sheet for DC was Nikki Bradshaw (Newtonville, ON) who made the lone save required of her with just one shot on goal by the Lancers.
