A late goal that tied the match at 1-1 led to the Mohawk Mountaineers and the nationally ranked Humber Hawks to a draw.

This is the second time in two matchups since 2019 that the Mountaineers and Hawks have concluded a match in a draw.

It was only five minutes into the game when Humber would take the early advantage. The Hawks came into the game undefeated in regular season play.

"Humber definitely started out much better than us," said head coach Paul Giannini. "I feel once the girls made some adjustments and slowed the game down a notch we were able to get the better of them."

Mohawk goalkeeper Samantha DeHaan (Smithville, ON) would make four saves after allowing the early goal.

It wasn't until the 86th minute the Mountaineers found their offense as Alyssa Glasbergen (Burlington, ON) would tie the game. Paige Epp (Grimsby, ON) would be credited with the assist.

"Our ladies showed tonight they can play with any team," Giannini said. "Our strength at the moment is our depth. It's definitely made a big impact."

Mohawk has now received a point in four consecutive matches to begin their season as their record stands at 1-0-3.

The Mountaineers will look to carry the momentum into a Sept. 24 contest versus the Niagara Knights at Tim Hortons Field. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
