Knights Soar Past Hawks to Earn Season Opener Win

October 23, 2022...WELLAND - The Niagara College Knights men's volleyball team did something last night no other team has been able to do since February 21, 2019 - defeat the Humber Hawks. In their season opening game last night at the Hawk's nest, the Knights soared to a 3-1 win over the home team, spoiling Humber's home opener. The Hawk's were 30-0 in regular season action before meeting the Knights last night.

Knocking off last year's OCAA Champions was not a cake walk by any means for the blue and white. Despite taking a 2-0 lead in the first two sets, Humber clawed back to take set three to cut the Knights lead in half. Niagara stormed back to take set four and ultimately taking the 3-1 win away from the Hawks to break Humber's 30-0 unbeaten streak.

Set scores were 25-23,25-23,23-25,25-23.

First-year head coach and former Knights setter, Steve Stone, knows this win was huge in many ways. "It feels good to come in to my first regular season game at the helm and come away with a victory," said Stone. " I think I'm going to need a hot lemon water for my throat."

"The boys came ready to play from the get go. Our team executed the game plan the whole night and made the appropriate adjustments when needed."

The Knights will hit the road again to face Conestoga on Sunday Oct 30th at 3:00 pm.
