Men's Soccer Advance to OCAA Championship

(Oct 23) Windsor, ON- The St. Clair College men's soccer team have advanced to the OCAA Championship after defeating a tough Algonquin College squad 2-1 on Sunday evening at the Sportspark. The Championship is being hosted by Humber College at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan starting on Wednesday.

St. Clair got off to a great start when Moussa Nazim scored in the 13th minute on a nice cross for Paola Davia. It didn't take the Saints long to go up 2-0 when Nazim got his second of the game on a header on a great cross from Massimo Pollard off of a free kick in the 28th minute.

The Wolves had a couple good chances late in the first half but hit the crossbar and Saints keeper made a couple of big saves as well to keep St. Clair up 2-0 heading into the half.

Algonquin came out with a strong push and got on the board in the 53rd minute on a nice free kick to the top corner.

St. Clair had a chance to restore their two goal lead but Zain Nazim hammered the ball of the post from distance.

The Saints defense didn't give much up after that keep the Wolves offense at bay for the rest of the half to secure the win.

St. Clair will take on Seneca in the quarterfinal on Wednesday at 5:30 pm. The winner will advance to the OCAA semi-final on Friday. Seneca finished the season in first place in the East Division with a record of 10-0 and are ranked in 2nd Ontario and 5th in Canada. The Saints ended the regular season with a record of 5-4-1 in 4th place in the West Division and are ranked 9th in Ontario.

The top two teams from the Championship will advance to the CCAA Nationals being hosted by Langara College in Langley, BC from November 9-12.
