LANCER COME OUT ON TOP OF 5 SET BATTLE

LANCER COME OUT ON TOP OF 5 SET BATTLE

The Lancers women's and men's volleyball teams were in action against the George Brown Huskies, Sunday February 13 in their first home game of 2022.

The women's team played first in an intense game. The women won the first set 25-16 as Chiara van der Zalm had an outstanding game alongside Joselyn Mayer who had some incredible blocks. In the second set the Lancers once again pulled out a victory, capped off by an amazing play by Ally Brownlee to finish the gam25-18. The next two sets were very close but George Brown pulled ahead bringing the series 2-2 and forcing what would be an incredibly intense fifth set. All players stepped up their game in the 5th set, but it was first year Lancers Sierra Scott and Erika Robertson who came up big with tough, consistent serves. The Lancers made a major comeback after finding themselves behind 12-5. Battling back to tie the game at 14, the Lancers struggled to string a pair of points together to finish the game. The Huskies and Lancers both struggled with unforced errors to close out the game, but the Lancers finally put the game away 22-20 after a pair of well placed, tough serves from Mayer. Not only was Mayer strong from the service line throughout the game, she also dominated the front court with strong blocks that helped slow off the Huskies' offense.

Now 1-1 on the season, the Lancers are back at home on Saturday, February 19th when they host the  Algonquin Thunder.
