Colts Defend Their Home Turf Against the Wolves

SCARBOROUGH - Husam Shallo channelled his inner marksman dropping seven triples and notching his career-high 29 points in the Colts' 76-70 victory over the Algonquin College Wolves.

The game started slow for the Colts Colts, dropping the first quarter 14-19, being outscored by six. In the early going the offence flowed through Covaun Armstrong. Armstrong tallied six points in the first frame going 4-5 from the line. For the Wolves, Carter Normand led with 8 points, shooting perfectly from behind the arc going 2-2.

The Colts' slow start plagued them going into the second quarter as they fell behind nine points before mounting a comeback and ending the second frame with the lead 40-38, thanks to an inbounding alley-oop bucket by Armstrong with 0.4 seconds left on the clock.

Husam Shallo established himself as the person through which Colts' offence ran, finishing the half with a team-leading fourteen points, going 4-4 from deep — all fourteen of his points came in the second frame.

After having success in the second quarter, coming out of half-time, the Colts kept pushing the pace, increasing their lead to seven points ahead of the Wolves 60-53 heading into the final quarter of play. Husam Shallo and Covaun Armstrong shouldered the majority of the offence through three frames combining for over half of their team's points with thirty-six points between them.

The Wolves big man, Ted Braden had 21 points after three quarters of play.

Despite their slow start, the Colts found the gas pedal heading into the second quarter and refused to take their foot off it for the rest of the game —, especially Husam Shallo.

"After the first shot, as soon as it went in and then the second shot, then I was like 'yeah, it's over,' third shot came, fourth came, and I just kept shooting… no hesitation."

The game's leading scorer ended his evening with 29 points, displaying he could be a threat from anywhere, going 7-for-9 from three. Next to Shallo was Covaun Armstrong who tallied 20 points of his own in the win.

Regardless of the efforts of Braden, who ended the night with 25 points, three rebounds, and 14 rebounds, the Colts came away with the victory and improved to 3-2 on the season and will look to keep the ball rolling next Friday against St. Lawrence College.
