Lords bats come to life against Hawks

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords baseball team produced 13 runs in a two-game split with the visiting Humber Hawks on Sunday afternoon at Kinsmen Stadium, winning the first matchup 7-1 before falling 8-6 in game two.

Six Lords batters earned a hit in the convincing game one victory as the team totaled 10 against a duo of Hawks pitchers. Meanwhile, fourth-year pitcher Alec Brown (Bowmanville, Ont.) once again impressed from the mound, scoring a complete game victory for the second time this season, while allowing just one run. With the win, Brown takes sole possession of the Lords all-time OCAA wins record with his ninth, jumping ahead of former Lords Brodie Harkness and Ilija Bozinovski who both recorded eight.

In game two of the afternoon, the Lords bats continued to shine with Durham scoring at least one run over the first four innings, capped off by a three run fourth inning. However, untimely errors in the seventh inning allowed the Hawks to retake the lead late, resulting in the loss.

With games in hand the Lords now sit in fourth place in the OCAA with a 3-3 record, while the Hawks move to 4-2 and second place. Durham is back in action this Wednesday, Sept. 19 when they host the George Brown Huskies at Kinsmen Stadium for a doubleheader under the lights. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
