Knights Men Earn First Home Game Win in 3-0 Sweep of Boreal

Story by Niagara College Sport Communication Students Clay Deline and Riley Morrison

November 26, 2022...WELLAND - For their first win at home this season, the Niagara College Knights men's volleyball program has defeated the Boréal College Vipères men's volleyball program in three straight sets- 25-16, 25-17, and 25-16 - and sheathed their swords until the next match tomorrow at 1:00pm against a tough Cambrian College team.

After two disappointing losses at home this season, the Knights are thankful they slayed this dragon and can now look forward to starting a winning streak at home.

"Our goal at the end of the season is to medal," said Niagara College men's volleyball coach Steve Stone. "That would be the end goal and we want to take care of business. In the end, though, it is a competitive league, and you have to take care of your side of the net. That's why you compete. I think we're more than capable."

The Knights received a major impact from Carter Thurman a second-year setter, studying Sports Management. The six-foot-two Balgonie, SK native, was outstanding for the Knights, accumulating twenty-nine assists and five digs propelling his team to victory.

The Knights showed us their overall team depth, with contributions from every corner of their roster. This was truly a team win.

Mitch Churipuy, a six-foot-one rookie outside hitter from Peterborough studying Electrical Engineering was mentioned by coach Stone as the most improved player of this season. "Mitch was a walk-on at tryouts and the coaching staff knew nothing about him, he showed up and proved to us he was worthwhile taking a chance on and he comes in and works hard every single day, asks questions, takes feedback, and makes the adjustments we ask him to do, so we are really happy with his progress, and he did really well."
