Rebounding key to fifth consecutive win

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team earned their fifth straight win, defeating the Loyalist Lancers by a final score of 59-46 on Tuesday night in Belleville.

Durham improved their record to 9-4 on the season, moving into a tie for second in the OCAA east division, alongside the George Brown Huskies.

The Lords dominant inside play was pivotal to the team win, outrebounding the Lancers 51-34, while outscoring Loyalist 22-6 on points in the paint. All five Durham starters registered seven or more rebounds in the win, including an impressive five offensive rebounds from 5'3 guard Alyssa Navarro (Oshawa, Ont.).

DC returns to the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre this Friday, Feb. 1 where they will host the Georgian Grizzlies. Tip off for the contest is set for 6 p.m., with those in attendance having an opportunity to win a number of fantastic prizes courtesy of Sky Zone Trampoline Park Whitby, including a 365-day bounce pass.
   • Behind an outstanding first half effort, Emily Chamberlain (Kingston, Ont.) led the Lords with a team-high 12 points
• Taking advantage of several second chance opportunities, Navarro ended the night with 10 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the field.
• An impressive team performance, Dekota Kirby (Markham, Ont.) and Durham athlete of the week Keisha Arthurworrey (Oshawa, Ont.) each scored nine points apiece. 
• Playing 38 minutes, Kate Raso scored a game-high 18 points for the Lancers.
  • Chamberlain picked up the double-double, adding 10 points to her offensive totals, while Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, Ont.) grabbed a game-high 11 boards.
• Filling out the stats sheet, Kirby guided the Lords offence with four assists, while also contributing on the defensive end with six steals.
• Brittany Mason of the Lancers notched a team-high eight rebounds.
