A game that looked to be heading for a draw saw the Mohawk Mountaineers find the back of the net twice in a one-minute span to beat the Niagara Knights 2-0 for their first win of the 2022 season.

Mohawk's Nicholas Tavares (Milton, ON) scored in the 69th minute when his corner kick went off a Niagara defender, and Hamza Salman (Hamilton, ON) would add another in the 70th minute.

"We showed how good we are together as a unit," said Tavares. "We just need to carry on like this for the rest of the season to get good results."

Goalkepper Oliver Steinke (Dundas, ON) made eight saves to help the Mountaineers get the win.

Head coach Jordan Brown said despite a short bench and a couple injuries, the team came together.

"The guys dug deeper, worked hard and defended well to get a good result no matter the obstacles," said Brown.

Next up for the Mountaineers is a match versus the Conestoga Condors at Tim Hortons Field at 8 p.m.
