Lords cap four-game week with third victory and sweep of Coyotes

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team steamrolled their way to a 3-0 victory (26-24, 25-8, 25-13) over the La Cité Coyotes Sunday afternoon.

This is the second meeting against the Coyotes this season, with Durham winning both in straight sets. The win marked their fourth of 2018, losing just once to the third-place Centennial Colts.

The game looked evenly matched in the first set as both teams battled back-and-forth for points. Durham was able to find the edge on defence to elevate them to the 26-24 win.

The Lords combined for a total of nine blocks and 20 digs in their victory over the Coyotes, with Nicole Vendenheuvel (Whitby, Ont.) coming up with five digs and Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) producing a total of four. Romain quarterbacked the offence with 27 assists and added five aces.

In the second and third sets the Lords really came alive and proved to be unstoppable, both offensively and defensively, as they allowed just eight points in the second and 13 in the third.

Sarah Rayment (Whitby, Ont.) was a big contributor on offence as she produced a total of seven kills and two aces.

Allyson Terwillegar (Enniskillen, Ont.) also had a strong outing on offence serving nine times in a row in the third set, which included a total of five aces. Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) contributed on both offence and defence recording six kills and three digs.

The Lords now only have one regular season home game remaining, with their next game being on the road next Saturday in North Bay against the Canadore Panthers.
