The Lancers got off to a slow start against the Algonquin Thunder Friday night in their first home game of the year.
Only scoring 7 points in the first quarter, the Lancers struggled against the Thunders' press and defence. Unable to generate a real offence through the first half, the Lancers found themselves on the losing side of a 51-25 score at the half.
Head Coach Caleb Hugh reiterated the importance of focusing and sticking to the game plan during half time, and sent the Lancers out with a renewed vigour. "We talked about defensive adjustments and reminded the girls that no matter the score, we always want to be the hardest working team on the court."
That energy transferred into a higher shooting percentage and more more consistent defence. The improvements saw the Lancers win the quarter 25-19 but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit created in the first.
Coach Caleb and his team have a quick turn around to prepare for their game against the Durham Lords on Tuesday. "We made a lot of errors today but Algonquin shot the ball well and we struggled with that mentally. Now we know & we'll bounce back on Tuesday against Durham.
