MEN'S SOCCER MAKE STATEMENT IN WIN OVER ALG

Huskies player and Wolves player battle for ball

George Brown Men's Soccer (5-0-1) made a statement in their 4-0 win over the visiting Algonquin Wolves (5-2) on Friday night (Sept 30) at Esther Shiner Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED: George Brown went into Friday's game with an undefeated record for a re-match against the then 5-1 Wolves. Algonquin's only loss of the season had come a few weeks prior against the Huskies in Ottawa.

The Huskies got out to an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute when 6'3" midfielder Ethan Hunter (1st Year) made no mistake in finding the back of the net for his second goal of the season. From there, it was a chess match back and forth affair for the remainder of the half with most of the play being contained to the middle of the field. George Brown recorded only four shots on goal to Algonquin's one.

The second half was a different story for the home team, who built momentum and energy as the game wore on. The Huskies were sparked by a 68th minute goal from rookie Renato Freitas, who made a beautiful individual effort, dribbling through three Wolves after receiving a cross from Yonis Jama before burying one past the sprawling keeper off of his left foot. The Huskies would not stop there, as they tallied another two goals on their next two shots on goal. The George Brown offence would go perfect in accuracy in the second half, scoring four goals on four shot attempts.

The final two goals were scored by striker Yonis Jama in the 89th minute on a through-ball from Mashhood Rehman followed quickly thereafter by Ryan Husynni in added time, again on an assist by Rehman. Goalkeeper Mabroor Butt is credited with the shutout. The 4-0 victory marks the team's fifth in a row, giving them a 5-0-1 overall record and top place in the OCAA East Division.

UP NEXT: The Huskies get right back at it on Saturday October 1st when they host the St. Lawrence Surge (3-2-1) in the second day of a back-to-back. Kick-off is scheduled for 6pm at Esther Shiner Stadium. Can't make the game in person? Watch us on our Livestream Channel!
