Men’s Basketball Dominant in Fanshawe Win

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team put up their highest regulation game point total in a dominant 116-72 win over Fanshawe College (London) at the SportsPlex Friday night.  The Saints (5-2) are now tied for 3rd place in the OCAA's West Division with two games remaining on their schedule before the semester break.

Fanshawe came out quickly surprising the home crowd with an early 15-7 lead, but a 14-point run erased the deficit as St. Clair took a 26-18 advantage into the second quarter thanks in large part to 17 points from Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON).  That was a close as it would get with the Saints scoring 35 points on a remarkable 65% from the field including 75% (6-of-8) from beyond the arc in the second quarter.  St. Clair rested comfortably at halftime with a 61-38 lead as Vincent-Simon already surpassing his season best game 24 points at the break.  The Saints were able to open the bench in the second half with all 11 players dressed recording a bucket on the scoresheet that contributed to their largest lead of 44 points during the third quarter.

Vincent-Simon finished with a game-high 30 points for St. Clair which included four triples to go with 3 rebounds and 3 steals.  Shakael Pryce (Pickering, ON) scored 15 points but set up his teammates with an astounding 15 assists while adding 6 rebounds and 4 steals for the Saints.  Tutu Jangati (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) came off the St. Clair bench to score 15 points while teammate Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON) chipped in with 10 points.  Fanshawe transfer Hanani Ujullu (Kitchener, ON) was a rim protecting force for St. Clair with 6 blocked shots in his first game against his former team.

The Saints led in most statistical categories but aside from shooting 55% in the game and making 16 deep balls they also bested Fanshawe 46-24 in points around the basket and 47-15 in bench scoring.

Fanshawe's Manvir Virdi (Brampton, ON) scored 23 points that featured 7 triples to go with 9 rebounds in a losing cause.   The game also contained a match-up of sibling rivalry as Fanshawe's Jalen Deerr (Pickering, ON) who scored 16 points is the younger brother of Saints shooting guard Jesiah Deerr (Pickering, ON) that dropped in 9 points.

St. Clair continues their OCAA West Division schedule at Redeemer University (Ancaster) on Saturday and Conestoga College (Kitchener) on Sunday.
