OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's softball team brought the mercy rule into effect for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon as the Lords walked away with an 11-1 victory in the sixth inning of the opening game of their doubleheader.
The Lords followed their opening victory with a convincing 9-0 win to sweep the Mohawk Mountaineers in their first meeting of the season.
In the opening game,
Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) needed just one hit to pass Vanessa Chaborek as the Durham Lords all-time hit leader. She picked up three hits to sit at 78 after the opening game. With two RBI she is now two back of Erin Dewey for the all-time lead in RBI at 44.
Rookie pitcher
Andrea Patrick (Whitby, Ont.) earned her first OCAA victory in the first half of the doubleheader, followed by Black earning her fifth win of the season in four innings of relief for game two starting pitcher
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.).
The sweep has positioned the Lords in second place in the OCAA, trailing only the St. Clair Saints.
Wednesday night the Lords host the Seneca Sting for Rowan's Law Day, are presenting the second annual Gerry Theriault Memorial Bursary and will be selling merchandise as part of a fan appreciation night.
