Mohawk Mountaineers men's soccer has begun the 2022 campaign with back-to-back losses following a tough road trip.

After losing to the St. Clair Saints in Windsor on Friday night, 24-hours later the Mountaineers fell to the Lambton Lions in Sarnia 3-1.

The Mountaineers did jump out to an early lead versus the Lions, with Ian Kere (Hamilton, ON) scoring in the 15th minute, but the Lions responded only four minutes later.

Lambton would find the back of the net two more times in the second half to come away with the victory.

Mohawk carried a lot of momentum through the game, but it just wasn't their day.

"In the second half we conceded a couple freak goals," said head coach Jordan Brown. "It was a really strange game where we had so much possession and chances to score, but just couldn't get the ball in the net."

The Mountaineers will next play in their home opener at their new home – Tim Hortons Field – versus cross-city rival the Redeemer Royals. The women's match begins at 6 p.m. and the men will follow at 8 p.m.

Admission to Tim Hortons Field is free with spectators welcome to enter no earlier than 5:30 p.m.
