OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords men's soccer team booked their place in the quarter-finals of the OCAA provincial championship on Saturday night when two second half goals helped them to a 3-1 win over the Lambton Lions in the crossover playoff round.
It took just 15 minutes for Durham to open the scoring when LeRohne Young (Oshawa, Ont.) converted from the penalty spot as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 1-0.
Despite loads of possession, the Lords conceded in the 35th minute when Adrian Waszak's deflected shot found its way into the back of the net in favour of Lambton.
Kevon Grant (Oshawa, Ont.) made a great save for Durham, keeping the game level heading into the break.
The hosts dominated the opening proceedings of the second half as the Lions looked content with holding on to what they had.
Durham found a way through in the 65th minute when they were awarded another penalty, which saw Young convert once again when he found the bottom right corner.
The Lords capped off a solid second half making it 3-1 in the 84th minute when Jose Flores (Ajax, Ont.) came off the bench to get the insurance goal, calmly slotting the ball into the bottom left corner.
Durham will now move on to face last season's silver medalists, the Sheridan Bruins in a rematch of last season's quarter-final. The provincial championship will be hosted by Fleming College with all the action in Peterborough being streamed on OCAA LIVE.
