Durham ends fall semester with dominant win over Loyalist

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team ended their fall semester in style, dominating the visiting Loyalist Lancers on route to a 71-49 victory on Tuesday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

Opening the contest with a 17-5 first quarter lead, which saw the Lords defence hold the Lancers to just 10 per cent shooting from the field, Durham never looked back. The Lords outscored, outrebounded and outperformed the Lancers in all four quarters, despite dealing with a short bench which forced Durham to an eight-woman rotation.

Lifting their record above .500 at 5-4, Durham will enter the winter break in fourth place in the OCAA east division. The Lords return to conference action in the new year, welcoming the George Brown Huskies to the CRWC on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Tip off for the second semester matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m., with Lords home games also streamed live at durhamlords.com/livestream.
  • Second-year guard Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) was a force offensively for the Lords scoring a game-high 28 points on 12-of-19 shooting. She would add six rebounds, three blocks, one assist and one steal as she filled up the stat sheet.
• Taking advantage of a size advantage in the paint, Emily Chamberlain (Kingston, Ont.) and Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, Ont.) combined for 32 points, scoring 17 and 15 respectively.
• Brittany Mason scored a team-high 15 in the loss for the Lancers.
  • 6'1 forward Keisha Arthurworrey (Oshawa, Ont.) led all Lords players on the glass with 15 rebounds in 23 minutes of action.
• Stasiuk recorded another double-double in the victory grabbing 10 boards of her own, five offensive and five defensive.
• Along with leading the Lancers offence, Mason also secured a game-high 18 rebounds.
  Overall Record: 10-7
Conference Record: 5-4
