Box Score KINGSTON, ON - Traveling to Kingston for their first road contest of the new season, the DC women's soccer team fell 3-1 to the St. Lawrence Surge on Friday night.
A fast paced game which saw St. Lawrence creating a bulk of the scoring opportunities, the Lords found themselves down early as they conceded goals to the home team in the 10th and 14th minutes. However, continuing her hot streak for the start of the season, first-year forward
Laura Smith (Queensville, ON) cut into the St. Lawrence lead with her third marker of the season in the 28th minute to make it a 2-1 game heading into the halftime break.
Despite closing the gap just before the half, it was the Surge who found another gear in the second frame, adding an insurance marker in the 55th minute to secure the home victory.
"We are still struggling a little with taking what we work on in practices and putting into application during a game and we will need to figure that out soon," mentioned Durham Lords head coach
Alex Bianchi post-game. "When you give up two goals due to silly mistakes in the first 15 minutes to a decent team like St. Lawrence, your putting yourself in a hole that can be difficult to get out of. We have time to put in more work and look for a better start in our next match."
Durham will next play host to the Centennial Colts on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Vaso's Field. The match will be streamed on
OCAA LIVE with kick off scheduled for 6 p.m.
