MEN'S BASKETBALL FALL TO STING BUT CLINCH FOURTH
The Grizzlies dropped a close battle to the Sting 79-74 but were able to clinch fourth place in the east and will host a playoff game.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team travelled to face the Seneca Sting on Tuesday night for their second to last regular season game of the year.
The Grizzlies pushed one of the east's top teams in the Sting to the limit. Georgian held a 10-point lead heading to the final quarter, but it wasn't to be as Seneca outscored the Grizzlies 26-11 in the final frame to win the game 79-74.
Nikyle Williams-Mcintosh (Newmarket) led the Grizzlies in scoring with 18 points while Tyler Vanessen (Whitby) had 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Braeden Wilkinson (Ottawa) continued his strong scoring off the bench registering 12 points from four three-pointers.
The loss drops the Grizzlies record to 12-7 on the season, but with a loss by Centennial as well on Tuesday night, Georgian is now locked into the fourth spot in the OCAA east division standings and is guaranteed to host a crossover playoff game.
The Grizzlies will host the fifth seed from the OCAA's west division standings on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 8 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre. Their opponent will be determined following this week's final regular season games in the crowded west division standings.
Tickets for that game will be available at the doors for $5 or the game can be watched online by visiting GeorgianGrizzlies.ca/WatchLive
The Grizzlies will wrap up their regular season schedule this Friday, Feb. 21 when they travel to take on the George Brown Huskies in Toronto.
