HUSKIES BASKETBALL DRAW WITH LANCERS

The George Brown women's basketball team (2-9) lost to the Loyalist Lancers (5-6) 71-53 on Saturday (Feb 4). The men's team extended their win streak to 13 to improve to 14-1 on the season after taking down the Lancers 90-51.

HOW IT HAPPENED – WBB: In the first quarter the Lancers jumped out to an early 15-10 lead, led by the scoring of Corbyville, Ontario native Grace Callahan who netted six points in the opening frame. In the second quarter, the visitors added 22 points while the Huskies only managed to score 13 points to enter halftime trailing 37-23. In the third quarter the Huskies did manage to outscore the Lancers 16-13 but in the fourth quarter, the Lancers would seal the victory as they outscored George Brown 21-14 to take the game by a final score of 71-53.

Ajax, Ontario native Jordyn Dawkins (1st Year) would finish with a team high 18 points along with collecting nine rebounds. Jizelle Manansala (1st Year) would add nine points along with Kiara Graham (1st Year) who finished with seven points and five steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MBB: The Huskies jumped out to early lead in the first quarter outscoring the Lancers 23-13 led by veteran Robert Ocampo (5th Year) who scored seven points in seven minutes and Derrick Taylor (2nd Year) who added six points of his own. In the second quarter, George Brown would add 25 points with contributions coming from Nas Robert (2nd Year) and Derrick Taylor who scored six points each. The Huskies entered halftime with a comfortable score of 48-27. In the second half the Huskies wouldn't look back as they added 42 points while holding the Lancer to just 24. George Brown would go on to win the game 90-51.

General Arts and Science student, Derrick Taylor finished with a team high 19 points while collecting four rebounds and two steals. Ocampo would finish the game with 12 points, five rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals and veteran point guard, Chris Fields (5th Year) would contribute with 11 points, eight steals and two assists.  

UP NEXT: The Huskies will travel to Ottawa, Ontario this weekend (Feb 11 and Feb 12) to play the Algonquin Wolves (both teams) and the La Cite Coyotes (men's team only). Action is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 4 pm with the women taking the floor first followed by the men's game at 6 pm. The Huskies will close out their regular season at home at the Casa Loma Athletic Centre on Friday February 17 at 6 pm and 8 pm. Can't make it person?
