OSHAWA, ON - Challenging the undefeated St. Clair Saints on Saturday afternoon, the Durham College women's softball team were unable to topple the OCAA leaders, dropping a doubleheader 8-4 and 8-3.
In an exciting Game 1 that required extra innings, the Lords led most of the way but saw the Saints continue to find an equalizer. Heading into the 8th inning tied 3-3, St. Clair scored five runs to pull away and keep their undefeated streak.
Meanwhile in Game 2, the new Durham Field saw its first home runs hit by opponents as Shae-Lyn Murphy led the way for the Saints with an in-the-park effort at the first at-bat of the game and Amy Claydon added a two RBI jack in the fifth.
Durham now begins a four-game road swing as they will travel to Toronto to face the Humber Hawks on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The Lords will be looking to avenge an earlier season loss to the Hawks. First pitch for the road game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Game 1
• Third-year catcher
Kaleigh MacIntyre (Guelph, ON) impressed with a 2-for-4, one RBI, and one run outing, hitting a single and triple.
• Three other Lords earned an RBI;
Nicole Mancini (Toronto, ON),
Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON), and
Gracie Hearns (Napanee, ON).
• Saints shortstop Shae-Lyn Murphy reached base four times, going 1-for-3 with an additional three walks,
Game 2
• Veteran centre fielder
Alexis Pereira (Newmarket, ON) delivered a perfect 4-for-4 performance, crossing the plate twice.
• Murphy went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs, including the inside-the-park home run, while Claydon was 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run for the Saints.
Game 1
• Second-year pitcher
Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) went the full eight innings, striking out nine Saints batters, while allowing eight walks, nine hits, and three earned runs.
• Claydon earned the win from the pitching circle with four strikeouts over eight innings, giving up nine hits and two earned runs.
Game 2
• Starting pitcher
Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON) went just three innings, conceding three earned runs on four hits.

Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) was handed the loss in relief, pitching four innings with six strikeouts and nine hits and five earned runs against.
• St. Clair pitcher Rya Cowan was awarded the win, while Allison Dufour appeared in relief.
