OTTAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team had a scare on Sunday, but avoided a loss as they walked away from La Cité with a 3-2 victory.
 
Durham opened with a 25-20 first set, before the Coyotes evened it up with a 25-21 win of their own. After trading the third and fourth sets again, the Lords edged La Cité 15-11 in the fifth and deciding set.
 
Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) led the Lords with career-high numbers. He had highs in both kills and points with 23 and 26 respectively. He also added two aces and a block. His previous high was 22 and 25 against the Algonquin Thunder on February 6, 2015.
 
Assisting in the offence was Harrison Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.) with 14 kills. Wood also had four blocks, which were matched by setter Rory Langley (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.).
 
Xavier Demers led the Coyotes with 15 kills.
 
On Saturday, the Lords were at Algonquin to take on the Thunder, but in the third set an air vent was knocked loose and the match was unable to be completed. Durham and Algonquin were tied 4-4 in the third set at the time.
 
A ruling on when the game will be played will come from the OCAA.
 
Durham's next match will be at home on Tuesday night when they host the George Brown Huskies. First serve is 8 p.m.
