OTTAWA, Ont. - Facing adversity on the road, the Durham College women's volleyball team came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Algonquin Thunder 3-2 in an exciting Friday night matchup.
Set scores for the five set win were 18-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-20, 15-8. With the win the Lords extend their undefeated record to 12-0 this season.
"It's always a battle when we play Algonquin here," said Durham Lords head coach
Tony Clarke after the come-from-behind win. "We started slow and this late in the season we are dealing with some injuries and players battling sickness, but it was great to see the girls fight back and really earn this win tonight."
After going back-and-forth through the first three sets of the match, coach Clarke rallied the troops heading into a decisive fourth set. Down 2-1, it was the first time this season the Lords have had to battle back with the match on the line. Rallying behind the strong play of outisde hitters
Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) and
Althea Boncheff (Alliston, Ont.), Durham was able to take back control, and with Joensen at the service line late in the fifth set, secure the win.
Durham continues their Ottawa road trip with a match tomorrow afternoon versus the La Cite Coyotes. First serve for the second contest in the nation's capital is scheduled for 1 p.m.
