HUSKIES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER IN SEASON FINALE

HUSKIES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER IN SEASON FINALE

The George Brown Huskies men's baseball team went 1-1 in the final doubleheader of the regular season against the Lambton Lions (2-12) on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 17) at Errol Russell Park.

Game 1: George Brown 8, Lambton 3

The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to the team's RBI leader, Aiden Colangelo, driving in another run. The score remained the same until the bottom of the fourth until Christian Bachoumis stepped into the batter's box with the bases loaded and absolutely crushed a pitch for the grand slam. His first career OCAA homerun pushed their advantage to 4-0.

That's all the first-year pitcher Michael Guardiero needed. He put together his best start holding the Lions to just one run off six hits and four walks in five innings of work to pick up his second win of the season.

In the sixth inning, George Brown added three more runs to put the game out of reach from Lambton.

Game 2: George Brown 9, Lambton 8

Game two of the doubleheader was an offensive showcase for both teams, and it started in the first inning.

The Lions generated four runs to have their lead in the afternoon. However, the Huskies made sure to respond right away. The team drove in five runs, two of which came off the bat of Bachoumis to regain the lead at 5-4, heading into the second inning.

George Brown was leading 6-4 in the top of the fourth inning until Lambton exploded for five runs in the frame to take an 8-6 advantage. After that, the Huskies got within one run but were not able to generate any more.

UP NEXT: The Huskies finished the season with a 3-11 record and are tied for the final playoff spot with the Centennial Colts (3-10). The team will find out if they qualified for the playoffs for the first time in program history after the Humber Hawks and Centennial Colts game next week. If the Colts lose, the Huskies are in.
