HUSKIES LOSE ON THE ROAD TO THE COLTS

Huskies pitcher Finlay Butler looks at batter before pitching

Huskies Men's Baseball (8-8) visited the Centennial Colts (11-3) on Friday October 7, 2022 at Ajax Sportsplex. The Huskies entered the ballgame after splitting at home against the Fanshawe College Falcons the weekend prior, while the Colts put up a combined 16 runs in their games against the Sault College Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1: In Game 1, Hayden Wesseling (2nd Year) got the call to the mound for the Huskies. In his five innings of work, Wesseling struck out one batter, gave up two walks with six hits and four earned runs before Simon Jardine (1st Year) would relieve him in the 6th inning. Jardine would strike out one himself, give up a walk and allow two more runs in his inning of work. Robert Vavaroutsos (1st Year) drove in two runs for the Huskies after hitting a double in the second inning, but the Colts chipped away over the course of the game and would go on to take Game 1 by a score of 6-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2: In Game 2 of the doubleheader, the Colts jumped out to an early two run lead in the bottom half of the 1st inning. But Huskies starting pitcher, Finlay Butler (1st Year), would soon find his groove striking out an impressive nine batters, giving up just two walks and a total of four hits in four innings pitched. The Huskies offense came from Braeden Tremblay (3rd Year) who tripled up the right field line in the top of the 2nd inning scoring Daniel Farrace (2nd Year), and Farrace was then brought in by a Noah McDonald (1st Year) single to put two runs on the board for the Huskies in the top half of the 2nd inning.

Entering the bottom of the 5th inning, the score was still tied 2-2 when Nathan Long (1st Year) took to the mound in relief. As a team, the Colts have a .407% slugging percentage (1st overall in the OCAA) and while they showed that power by making contact on a number of pitches, a series of infielding errors would cost the Huskies the game as the Colts scored nine runs off Long, but only two of them earned. Centennial would later add one more against Michael Guardiero (2nd Year) to take the game 12-2.

UP NEXT: On Thursday October 13th, the Huskies close out the season on the road when they take on the Seneca Sting (6-10) at Stan Wadlow Park in East York. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 5pm. Watch the game live on our Livestream Channel!
