Women's volleyball record perfect 18-0 regular season

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Defeating the Fleming Knights in straight sets on Sunday afternoon, the Durham College women's volleyball team concluded the regular season with a perfect 18-0 regular season record. This marks the second time in three seasons the Lords have achieved an unblemished regular season record, tying for the fewest sets conceded (6) in the province this year.

The Lords made quick work of the winless Knights, defeating Fleming in under 60 minutes. Durham was dominant from the service line, totaling 23 aces in the victory, while also converting more than half their attack attempts (.514 kill percentage).

With the eighth place team in the west division, Cambrian Golden Shield, hosting the OCAA women's volleyball championship this season, the Lords will welcome the seventh place Redeemer Royals to the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre next Saturday, Feb. 16. The winner of the crossover qualifying match will advance to the OCAA championship scheduled for Feb. 22-24. First serve for the OCAA crossover is set for 8 p.m.
  • Lords scoring leader Althea Boncheff (Alliston, Ont.) was outstanding in the quick three set win, leading all players with 13 points from seven kills and six service aces.
• Third-year captain Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) and first-year setter Georgi Williams (Whitby, Ont.) also had strong offensive games with nine points apiece, mostly from the service line. Joensen nailed six aces and three kills, while Williams scored a team-high seven aces, adding two kills.
• A rough outing overall for the Knights. As a team Fleming recorded just seven points from five kills, one ace and one block.
  • Williams added 22 assists in her role as primary setter in the regular season finale, while first-year libero Hannah Amos (Whitby, Ont.) registered five digs to lead all players defensively.
  Overall Record: 29-8
