OSHAWA, Ont. – It wasn't pretty, but the Durham College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory on Thursday night over Loyalist College to improve to 16-0.
 
The nationally ranked Lords were the better team to start, showing it with a 25-12 first set victory, but leading 23-11 in the second set the wheels almost came off. Durham allowed five straight Lancer points before scoring another of their own. Loyalist then went on another 5-0 run before losing the set 25-21 to the host Lords.
 
In the third and final set Durham won 25-21 again, but did not easily close the door on the Lancers who stayed in the mix and looked like they may take one from the Lords – who have only lost five sets all year.
 
Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) earned 12 kills, alongside two aces for a match-high 14 points in the win – although Madeleine Elit (Trenton, Ont.) had the highest hitting percentage of .444 going four-for-nine offensively. Elit also had an ace and two blocks.
 
Shannon Dean (Whitby, Ont.) had six kills on 11 attempts and four aces.
 
On the other end of the court Sarah Piana Yafu had 11 kills and a block in the loss for Loyalist.
 
Durham will now have over a week off before they hold their final home game of the regular season against the Canadore Panthers. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
