Lords come up just short against Saints

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's softball team found themselves on the wrong side of two thrilling Sunday afternoon contests, falling in both games of their OCAA doubleheader versus the visiting St. Clair Saints.

A back-and-forth Game 1 saw the Saints come out on top 5-4 with the game-winning run coming in the seventh inning, before picking up another single run win over the Lords in Game 2, 2-1.

DC will have a full week to prepare for their next matchup, traveling to Kitchener next Sunday, Sept. 29 to take on the Conestoga Condors. In their previous meeting earlier this season the Lords and Condor split their doubleheader at Durham Field. First pitch for the road game is set for 1 p.m.
  GAME 1
• Lords lead off hitter Nicole Mancini (Toronto, Ont.) had a very strong showing in the first game, going 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run.
• Rya Cowan cashed in the game-winning run for the Saints with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. She finished the game 1-for-2 with a walk, one RBI, and 2 runs.
GAME 2
• Second-year infielder Madigan McGhee (Ajax, Ont.) was the lone Lords batter to record multiple hits going 2-for-3 in Game 2.
• Cowan continued her strong day with a 3-for-4 outing at the plate, crossing the plate as once.
  GAME 1
• Delivering another complete game effort, Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) went all seven innings for the Lords being charged with five earned runs on eight hits, while striking out two
• Along with driving in the winning run, Cowan also picked up the win in the pitching circle giving up just one earned run in five innings of work.
GAME 2
• Another Lords complete game outing, veteran Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) pitched seven innings, striking out three, while being charged with two unearned runs.
• Hannah Desrosiers earned the win for the Saints holding the Lords to just four hits and one unearned run.
  Overall Record: 12-7
Conference Record: 9-5
