LANCERS FALL IN TOUGH 5 SET BATTLE

LANCERS FALL IN TOUGH 5 SET BATTLE

The Lancers lost a heartbreaking 5 set battle against the Georgian Grizzlies at home on Saturday.

In one of their best starts of the season, the Lancers got out ahead of the Grizzlies thanks to strong blocking efforts from first year middle Jaden Collier and terrific team passing. With fellow first year player Will Galbraith stepping into a setting role, the Lancers' passing accuracy on defence and serve receive was key to their offensive abilities.

The Lancers played with passion and tenacity in the first two sets to take the lead after winning 27-25 and 25-22 .

In another close set in the third, the Grizzlies had a run of tough serves that pushed them ahead of the Lancers and boosted their way to victory, avoiding the 3 set sweep with a 25-19 win.
Both teams battled hard in the 4th but the Grizzlies came out on top again to even the sets at 2 each and forcing a 5th.

The Lancers started strong in the 5th but committed a string of unforced errors that gave the Grizzlies the edge. The Lancers fought back to tie the game at 13 with second year Lancer Caleb Seguin at the service line. The Grizzlies won the serve back after a well placed tip before veteran Lancer Josh Roberts came back with a huge kill from the left side to tie the game at 14.
The Grizzlies scored the next two in a row to take the set 16-14 and win the game, 3-2.
Roberts led his team in scoring with 16 kills, 3 aces and 3 blocks for 22 total points followed closely by Seguin who added 13 kills, 2 aces and 3 blocks, totalling 18 points.

The Lancers finish out their first semester schedule Saturday November 30th when they host the Canadore Panthers at home at 5 PM.
