Colts lose to Wolves to Finish Season

By: Griffin Porter

The Centennial Colts season ended on a sour note on Saturday, as they dropped their regular-season finale 85 – 67 to the Algonquin Wolves. The Colts struggled to contain Algonquin forward Zerious Loney, who finished the game with 22 points on 10-13 shooting. Centennial finishes their season with a record of 2-6.

Algonquin's offence performed at a high level throughout the game, as the Wolves shot 55% from the field, compared to Centennial's 47%. The superior Algonquin efficiency was partly due to their ability to work the ball into the paint, as the Wolves finished with 32 points in the paint and 18 assists. Wolves guard Jessner Thelemaque led both teams with 6 assists to go along with his 17 points.

Centennial did still get a strong performance from their star point guard Covaun Armstrong, as the 1st year guard finished his rookie season on a high with an efficient 21 points on 9-12 shooting from the field. Armstrong finishes the regular season with an average of 20.8 points per game and 39.3% shooting from three-point range, both encouraging signs for his OCAA career moving forward.

But in the end, Algonquin's superior depth and ability to play inside led to their win over Centennial in the regular-season finale. However, coach Trevor Challenger and his Colts will have an opportunity to make some noise in the crossover playoff games on March 9th, when they will take on Georgian College.
