Men’s volleyball keeps wins coming with sweep of La Cité

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team may have taken five sets to earn their first victory of the season, but are rolling now as they won their third match in a row on Saturday to stay undefeated.

Against the La Cité Coyotes the Lords took the opening two sets 25-15, but in the third looked like they may have to play a fourth.

Down 24-23 to the Coyotes, Durham battled back to force the set to become the first team to score back-to-back points.

Both teams had numerous chances to earn set point, but it was Bret Polfuss (Kitchener, Ont.) who had the final two attacks that made the difference for Durham as the Lords held on to take the set 36-34 and match 3-0.

Similar to their win on Friday against Algonquin, the Lords offence was spread evenly. Andrew Watson (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Jordan McFarlane (Oshawa, Ont.) shared a team-high nine points. Watson picked up eight kills and a block, while McFarlane had five kills, an ace and three blocks.

Polfuss also had eight kills in the win for Durham.

Kevin Atche and Jordan Legros each had 10 kills for La Cité in the loss.

The Lords will now prepare for the Georgian Grizzlies on Thursday, who are 2-0 as of Saturday.

Their next home game isn't until Nov. 17 against the Fleming Knights.
