Men's volleyball drop crucial contest to Humber

REXDALE, Ont. - They pushed their opposition from Humber - winners of 11 straight - to the brink in a marathon opening set, but the Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (6-10 OCAA) were unable to maintain that level in a 3-0 loss.

Humber eventually claimed the opener 30-28, before closing out the match 25-19, and 25-17.

The Double Blue hit at a higher percentage than Humber (.211 - .209) but the homeside held a big advantage at the net, with plus-nine block differential (12-3).

Michael Kong posted a double-double for the Bruins with 10 points (nine kills, one ace) and 11 digs - marking the second time in his career he accomplished the feat - while Liam Butchereit had a match-high 16 digs.

Sheridan will hit the road to close out the regular season next weekend - with contests against Cambrian and Boreal - not quite knowing their playoff status, but head coach Frank Pento says they will only focus on what they can control.

"We're just going to focus on taking it one point at a time," he said. "Those points will build up to a set and a full match, and we'll see where that leaves us by the end of the weekend."
