Men’s Basketball Control Conestoga

Kitchener, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team has set the table for a final push after a 95-73 victory over Conestoga College (1-5) in Kitchener Sunday afternoon.  With the win the Saints are now 6-1 and sit in 2nd place of the OCAA's West Division firmly in control of their playoff position with just two games remaining on their regular season slate.

On Sunday, the St. Clair set the tone after the opening tip moving ahead 11-2 and never looked back.  Up 28-14 after the first quarter the Saints continued to widen the gap and led 47-29 by the halftime break.  Near the end of the third quarter St. Clair had their biggest lead of 27 points and even though Conestoga won the final frame 34-29 the result was never in doubt down the stretch.

Conestoga made 13 triples in the game but only converted 27% of their attempts from distance while St. Clair controlled the glass outrebounding their opponents 66-47 which led to a 30-4 advantage in fast break points as well as a 68-24 difference in points close to the basket.  The Saints also outscored Conestoga 37-18 in points off the bench and nearly double them up in second chance points (29-16).

David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Michigan) had a game high 21 points for the Saints to go with 4 rebounds.  Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) chipped in with 10 points off the bench adding 7 rebounds.
