Falcons Defeat George Brown in OCAA Baseball First Round Playoff Game

(London, Ontario) – The Falcons Men's Baseball team (12-7, 3rd) defeated the George Brown Huskies (9-10, 6th) by a score of 8-4 on Thursday evening in Windsor at the OCAA Provincial Championship hosted by St. Clair College. With Fanshawe's victory, they will now advance to the next round of games to be played on Friday.  

 

Fanshawe went up 2-0 in the first on a throwing error before George Brown tied the game in the top of the third inning. The Falcons responded by scoring two runs on another error by the Huskies before a Macguire Gordon (Lucan, ON) sacrifice fly scored Jamie Chopping-Lawlor (Cambridge, ON). Eric Martyn (Acton, ON) drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 6-2 for the Falcons. The Huskies added a run in the sixth frame, but Fanshawe quickly answered with RBIs from Liam Carson (Ingersoll, ON) and Gordon. The Falcons would hold off George Brown in the top of the seventh and post an 8-4 victory.

 

Falcons' pitcher Connor Stapleford (Burlington, ON) notched the win, while George Brown's Finlay Butler took the loss. Gordon was named the player of the game for the Birds. Fanshawe will face the host St. Clair Saints (17-1, 2nd) at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21.
