Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

ROYALS FLIRT WITH UPSET AGAINST CCAA #3 FALCONS

Fanshawe strikes twice in the 2nd half as Royals drop third straight

The Redeemer Royals Women's Soccer team faced a stiff test Saturday afternoon when they traveled to London, ON to face the Fanshawe Falcons. The game, against the #3 ranked team in Canada, would prove to be a solid benchmark for the Royals, the host of the 2019 OCAA Women's Soccer Championship.

The Falcons, last years CCAA Bronze Medalists, started the season 1-0-1 after defeating the Sheridan Bruins and tieing the Humber Hawks. The Royals entered Saturday's match having dropped two evenly paid matches against St. Clair (2-0) and Conestoga (2-1).

The Royals opened the scoring on Saturday in the 12th minute when Kirsten Klompmaker got her first of the year. The Royals would take their 1-0 lead into halftime. Fanshawe finally got on the scoresheet in the 64th minute when Nicole Nielsen tied the match. Reigning player of the year Jade Kovacevic gave the Falcons the lead in the 80th minute after Fanshawe was awarded a penalty kick.

For the Royals, Lilly Brown was outstanding in net again, notching 12 saves and conceding just one goal in open play.

Redeemer returns home for a Friday matchup against the 0-2-1 UTM Eagles. Kick-off is set for 4pm.
