Lords improve to 8-0 with a 3-0 sweep over Centennial

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team picked up their eighth straight win as they swept the Centennial Colts 3-0 on Thursday night.

The Lords have been on a roll in 2016 having won eight straight games including six in a row in straight sets. They have only dropped three sets, both of which were in their opening two games.

Durham did not get off to a hot start on Thursday as they traded points including making a number of service errors keeping the Colts in the game. Tied late in the opening set, the Lords managed to turn things around and got on a roll winning 25-22.

The next two sets were all DC as they won by scores of 25-19 and 25-15.

Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) was setter Megan Romain's (Ajax, Ont.) favourite target as she converted on 14 of 30 attacks. She also had three aces and one block.

Freshman Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) finished the night with seven kills and four digs while Shannon Dean (Whitby, Ont.) had six kills and one ace. Coming into the match, Dean was fourth in league scoring averaging 4.1 points per set.

Romain racked up 29 assists in the win.

Mari Pikkov was the Colts leader on offence with 11 kills while Kadeisha Powell-Graham had 13 digs.
