No. 14 Lords unstoppable in seventh straight win

OSHAWA, Ont. – There appears to be no stopping the No. 14 nationally ranked Durham Lords women's volleyball team, who cruised to a straight-sets victory over the visiting Fleming Knights on Thursday night to move to 7-0 on the season.

Just how dominant have the Lords been thus far? You would need to backtrack four weeks in order to find the last time the team lost a set – in an Oct. 27 matchup with Algonquin.

Playing host to the Knights on Thursday, the Lords kicked off each set in-turn by establishing an insurmountable lead. On defence, they refused to grant the Knights even an inch, limiting them to three service aces on the evening, while landing 16 of their own. Durham's killer instinct was on full display as they refused to let Fleming up off the mat in the final frame, ending it with a 25-10 third set victory.

The Lords will look to remain unbeaten when they host the George Brown Huskies at the CRWC next Thursday, Nov. 29. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Althea Boncheff (Alliston, Ont.) stayed hot for the Lords, topping the team with 10 kills, adding two service aces and one block.
• Durham's Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) tied Boncheff with a game-high 13 points from seven kills, four services aces and two blocks.
• Sara Grosse led the way for the Knights with a team-high four kills.
  • The Lords offence was fueled by a monster performance from Karlina Domingo (Pickering, Ont.), chalking up a game-high 25 assists.
• Defensively, Durham saw a full team effort with Boncheff, Domingo, Hannah Amos (Whitby, Ont.), and Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) all recording three digs apiece.
• Alexis Vahey recorded four digs to lead Fleming, while Selyna Roy tallied seven assists.
  Overall Record: 14-7
Conference Record: 7-0

Next game: Thursday, Nov. 29 vs. George Brown Huskies • 6 p.m. – Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre
