HUSKIES TAKE DOWN LANCERS

HUSKIES TAKE DOWN LANCERS

The volleyball teams lost a pair of games against the George Brown Huskies Saturday in the Lancerdome.

Kicking the day off, the women's team got off to a rough start and fell 25-12 before turning things around in the second set. In a much more consistent set, the Lancers passed a better ball on serve receive and improved their defence. Tougher blocks in the front row helped slow down the Huskies offense and push the Lancers to a tie at 21 before fall just short with a 25-23 decision to put the Huskies up 2 sets to 0.

Heading into what would be the third set, the Lancers played with confidence and held the momentum for the majority of the game. With second year setter Lorraine Spellman out of the lineup, the Lancers did a good job of adjusting as necessary and third year player Raven Maracle stepped up as setter. Maracle worked hard to keep the Lancers in the game and ran a good offense that kept the Lancers close in the last two sets of the game. Jillian Hoftyzer and Alicia Orsborne remained consistently strong on both offense and defence and lead the game in scoring. Hoftyzer had twelve  kills, 2 aces and 2 blocks while Orsborne had 10 kills and 1 ace.

With the loss, the Lancers fall to a 4-10 record with 3 games left in the season; Canadore on Sunday February 3rd, Fleming on Wednesday February 6th and Georgian on Saturday February 9th.
