GEORGE BROWN FALLS TO AN UNDEFEATED SENECA

Broomer makes stretched out high save with other players looking on

George Brown Women's Soccer (3-4-2) lost to the undefeated Seneca Sting (8-0) on Saturday October 8, 2022 at Esther Shiner Stadium by a score of 1-0, putting the Huskies in 6th place in the East Division as they prepare to close out their season this weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Despite the strong offensive attack launched early on by the Sting, the Huskies' disciplined defence and strong goalkeeping by Victoria Broomer (1st Year) kept the game scoreless. As soon as the visitors would advance up the field, the Huskies were quick to pressure the ball forcing the Sting to have to regroup. The Sting did however get on the board in the 37th minute on a goal by Shanice Alfred which would prove to be the game winner.

With Seneca's offensive command of the match, the Huskies only managed to get a total of two shots off with one hitting the target as a result of a corner kick, and the other a heartbreaker off the crossbar with only five minutes left to go in the game on a long lobbed ball in by Julie McDonald (1st Year) over a retreating Christina Diaco in the Sting net. Seneca meanwhile had a total of 14 shots with eight of nine on net being collected by Broomer. For the season, the rookie goalkeeper holds a save percentage of .861 and a goals against average of 1.29. She has a total of 62 saves, and also two goals scored.

UP NEXT: George Brown closes out the season on Sunday October 16th when they host the Fleming Knights (1-5-1) at Esther Shiner Stadium. The last time these two teams played the Huskies won 8-0.
