No. 10 Lords extend unbeaten streak

OSHAWA, Ont. – The No. 10 nationally ranked Durham College women's volleyball team pushed their record to 4-0 to start the 2019-20 season after defeating the Seneca Sting in straight sets on Thursday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. Set scores were 25-10, 25-16, 25-13.

The Lords are not only undefeated through four matches to start the season, but also extended their current undefeated streak versus eastern division opponents in regular season contests to 23 matches. The last time DC tasted defeat at the hands of an eastern rival in regular season action was February 2018.

On the night the Lords once again made quick work of their opponents, defeating the Sting in under an hour at the CRWC. Nearly every player in Durham's lineup saw time on the court, while six players recorded four or more points.

Following two successful outings at home in the CRWC, the Lords will now head back to the road when they travel to face the George Brown Huskies next Saturday, Nov. 9. First serve in Toronto is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the match being streamed on OCAA LIVE.
  • Fourth-year captain Jessica Joensen (Newcastle, Ont.) led the Lords in scoring for the third consecutive match with 11 points from seven kills, two aces, and two blocks.
• Fellow fourth-year outside hitter Allyson Terwillegar (Enniskillen, Ont.) was also strong offensively recording nine points from nine kills in just two sets played.
• Three Sting players recorded eight points in the loss; Gabrielle Wicks, Zeniah Pinnock, and Zoe Rath.
  • After being named DC athlete of the week for her strong performance last week, second-year setter Georgi Williams (Whitby, Ont.) continued her outstanding play adding 30 assists and four service aces in the win over Seneca.
• Along with leading the team offensively, Joensen also scored a game-high eight digs defensively.
• Lena Gaju was the guiding force for the Seneca offence registering 19 assists from her setter position.
  Overall Record: 14-6
Conference Record: 4-0
