Baseball Wins Big at Seneca, 11-2

NORTH YORK – Humber baseball (10-2, 1st OCAA) made a statement Wednesday evening, handing the Seneca Sting (7-1, 2nd OCAA) their first loss of the season. At Bishops Cross, the Hawks used timely hitting and rode the dominance of Braden Taylor to pick up the win, 11-2.
The new-look Sting came into the game riding high, walking off St. Clair on Sept. 20 and showing the league they can contend after combining for ten total wins over the last three seasons.
The defending champions let Seneca know they were still the team to beat in the OCAA, scoring ten-plus runs in a game for the fourth time this season.
After Seneca trimmed Humber's lead to one, the Hawks erupted for six runs in the sixth inning. After Hunter Bisser drove in Liam Sutherland on a sacrifice fly, Ty Martin picked up an RBI double to centre field to score Dennis Dei Baning. A few pitches later, Jared Gonsalves hit a line drive two-run home run. Not be outdone by his teammate, Stephen Narhabeki continued his breakout 2019 campaign by hitting a solo home run a couple of batters later.
Workhorse Braden Taylor picked up his third win of the season, throwing six innings and gave up one earned run on four hits while striking out nine. Taylor held Seneca's top-hitter Cooper Lamb hitless, striking out the shortstop and inducing two weak infield pop-outs.
