Starting the season on the road in London, No. 13-ranked Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball came away with a victory defeating the Fanshawe Falcons in four sets (20-25, 25-13, 25-11, 25-15).

The win comes after the start of the season was delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

"I thought once we got the jitters out in game one, we played a complete team match," said head coach Matthew Schnarr.

The veteran coach had multiple athletes to credit after the win.

"I thought Amanda Kuiper (Woodstock, ON) set the ball extremely well to give our offense a steady presence," Schnarr said. "Our middles Irene Jaramillo Restrepo (Manizales, Colombia) and Rachel Vanderwal (Hamilton, ON) were big difference makers."

Jaramillo-Restrepo lead the Mountaineers with 11 kills in four sets. Julia Watson (Burlington, ON) and Kaelyn Emslie (St. Catharines, ON) each contributed nine kills.

The Mountaineers won't get any break in action as they now travel to Windsor to play the No. 7-ranked St. Clair Saints on Feb. 13 at 1 p.m.
