St. Clair College Men’s Baseball Return to Gold in Oshawa

Oshawa, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team won their 6th gold medal at the OCAA Provincial Championship with a 7-1 victory over Humber College (Etobicoke) Saturday afternoon at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium in Oshawa.

The Saints waited until the 3rd inning but put up five runs to stake themselves to a commanding lead.  Humber answered with their only run of the game in the 5th inning, but St. Clair answered with two more insurance runs in the bottom half.

That was all starter Michael Hamlin (Harrow, ON) needed who picked up the pitching win for the Saints with five innings of work after spreading out five Humber hits and surrendering the lone earned run with just a single walk to go with four strikeouts.  Reliever Jacob Rajsigl (Windsor, ON) made his 2nd appearance of the tournament for 1.1 innings to strikeout a pair and give up just one hit.  He gave way to Austin Oulds (Chatham, ON) who finished off the last two outs with a sole hit and a strikeout in his 3rd consecutive closeout situation of the Championship.

Offensively St. Clair bashed eleven total hits in the game with right fielder Hunter Appleyard (LaSalle, ON), first baseman Colin Robinson (Windsor, ON) and catcher Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) each registering a pair of base knocks.  Appleyard had a triple with an RBI to go with a run scored while Robinson had an early 2-RBI single with Real also adding an RBI.

Hamlin received St. Clair Player of the Game honours with Oulds joining Robinson as OCAA Championship All-Star selections for the Saints.  St. Clair catcher Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) was named the OCAA Championship MVP.

In eight years of OCAA baseball the Saints have managed to win the title in all but two seasons.
