Softball finishes OCAA Tournament with bronze medal

WINDSOR – For the first time since 2013, Humber softball finished on the OCAA podium, this time capturing the bronze medal at St. Clair College.

As the second seed in the tournament, the Hawks opened their title defence against the Durham Lords. After Durham opened the scoring in the first inning, a Hayley Pasma sacrifice fly in the third gave Humber a short-lived lead. All-star Alexis Ferreira homered in the sixth inning to cut Durham's lead in half, but it wasn't enough as the Lords pulled off the upset, 5-3.

Needing a win to advance to the medal round, the Hawks cruised to a 7-0 shutout victory over Conestoga. Ferreira went deep once again, finishing with a game-high three RBIs. Hayley Pasma, Jorja Berney, Michaela Tuck, and Breanna Oliver all finished with two hits, while Meagan Muir dominated from the circle, throwing a two-hit, nine strikeout shutout for Humber.

Looking to advance to the title game for the second straight season, Humber's defence was disappointing, as six errors led to four unearned runs over five innings. Playing in front of the home crowd, St. Clair's Allison Dufour was too much for the Hawks to handle, scattering four hits in five innings, as St. Clair picked up the 10-0 victory, advancing to the finals.

In the finals, Durham held on to beat St. Clair 8-7 in nine innings.

Adding to her impressive 2021 resume, Alexis Ferreira was named to the all-tournament team, finishing with two home runs and four RBIs.
